I Didn't Shop For A Month & Here's What Happened
Let’s be real…
and here’s why: I’m not like a psycho shopaholic or anything, but I enjoy enjoy shopping. Like I said in my last post, clothes are what I enjoy spending my money on. I got this idea from the lovely Kristin from Countdown to Friday (her posts here and here) let’s just say, she rocked it…I, not so much. I told myself I could not buy clothes, shoes, accessories or makeup for the entire month of September with no exceptions.
About two weeks in, I started feeling it. I noticed that me and my friends enjoyed just walking around stores to simply window shop and I wasn’t even letting myself do that. I was getting bored and either craving shopping even more or spending lot’s of money on food because if I couldn’t shop, I could cook expensive meals when I normally shop for food frugally as I do clothing.
Normally my shopping goes about like this: I browse a lot and when I find a really good deal that’s when I snatch it up. It keeps my closet fresh and normally keeps me to spending under $10 a week on clothes. My crave is cured through this strange way of saving.
So, about halfway through I planned a shopping trip on the first of October with my best friend. Unfortunately, she was busy on the first day so we moved the date up two days, so technically…I failed. Since I had only been shopping my closet, I knew the things I wanted. I wanted a new pair of black heeled booties and a new pair of mom jeans…but since I hadn’t shopped all month I got caught up with all the good deals and while I did get some fun stuff, I also spent more money than I normally would’ve if I would’ve just picked up a few things along the way. So, I think it actually made it worse in the long run. Haha.
I honestly didn’t really learn much. I feel like I utilize the clothing I own very well already, I did learn however that me spending a few dollars here and there to give me that adrenaline rush of grabbing a good deal is totally worth it and actually helps me save money.
Have you ever done anything like this? Did it work for you?
